We love seeing Australian football creatives thrive; especially when they are so closely linked to Ultra Football.
One of our best content creators, Ultra Mag man and friend of Ultra, Aleksandar Jason, recently got to fly to Portugal to shoot a campaign for FC Porto and New Balance.
During lockdown, I got to shoot Dynamo Kyiv for New Balance Football. A project that was created and managed by my long time clients, Cult Kits.
Cult Kits have taken on work as a creative agency as of 2020, New Balance being one of their main brands. The hype behind the Dynamo Kyiv work was what brought about the FC Porto job.
In Early 2022 we were asked to fly to Porto for the shoot. This was a big trip especially given we hadn't been flying due to COVID for ages and I'd only recent come back from Thailand with Melbourne City. I was excited but also nervous to fly solo across the world for this one.
I planned the story of the video from start to finish, wanting to make sure it was authentic while also connecting to the club and fans.
A few weeks before the shoot we booked the flights and met up with the CK team in London. I then got up at 4am the next day to get to Gatwick Airport to fly to Porto. When we arrived I was taken aback by what a great city it looked at first sight.
On day one we met with the fan based the video on, Miguel. The story was to document his fathers inspiration and how it made him a Porto fan.
All up I spent four days in Porto, met some amazing people and became friends with the locals. What a city, what a club. My first impression of the stadium, the country and the city was incredibly positive.
My favourite day from the trip was the 530am day 1 shoot with Miguel looking out to the city of Porto. Another shot that I loved was at the family home. All of his grandparents in one room. It felt so good to be with people, but also new people that you have never met, after spending almost 2 years in lockdown.
The video is now live and I'm really happy with it. The reception I have received is more than I expected - im glad Porto fans are in love with the video.
Massive respect to Aleks and the work he's done. Here's to the next one! You can check out the video below.
