The Nike Phantom Luna Play Test: In Review
Wed, Jun 28.23

With the Women’s World Cup coming up in July, Nike ensured they covered all areas with the release of the Phantom Luna boots. With a new AsymFit collar that was designed around female anatomy, research showed players wanted a snug fit around the ankle in order to optimise movement. Nike continued to highlight each feature needed on a boot to support our female footballers, the addition of a high cuff heel spasm was set asymmetrically off the ankle to reduce break - in time and irritation on the achilles.
A redesigned grip knit, the female-led boot offers a new feeling that comes integrated into the upper to keep the feeling of the boots upper pliable. With a stud pattern design that we’ve never really seen before, Nike revealed the Cyclone 360 pattern, which features a circular stud pattern near the toes to allow for rotational traction on any surface, but also the ability to plant, pivot or push off in one motion. The new design reduces rotational traction significantly, allowing a mix of grip.
We were fortunate enough to the Emerging Matildas put the new Phantom Lunas to test and see what all the hypes about. With some unbelievable goals and skills on display, the boots were the star attraction. Players were able to experience the boots in a range of different environments whilst being put to the test by coach for the night Caitlin Friend. The players loved the improved grip on the boot and the cyclone pattern stating it genuinely benefits them overall. In what was a fantastic night at Ultra Football, we loved seeing the stars of the future showcase their talent. With the Women’s World Cup just around the corner, we can’t wait to see some of the best athletes putting these to test!
