Thu, Nov 21.24

Passion for AS Roma for their supporters runs deeper than football—it’s a way of life. For fans like Adam Tennenini, supporting the Giallorossi is about identity, family, and an unshakable bond with the Eternal City. With the reissue of AS Roma’s iconic 1993 range, we sat down with Adam to hear his story as a lifelong Romanista. From his earliest memories of falling in love with the club to his treasured collection of Roma kits, Adam shares what it truly means to live and breathe Roma.
Through his words, we celebrate the timeless connection between the fans, the city, and the club, encapsulated in the phrase: “La Roma non si discute, si ama.”
How did you first fall in love with AS Roma, and what connected you to the club?
I didn’t choose Roma, Roma chose me. My family hail from the capital and surrounds, I fell in love with AS Roma through the passion and pride that radiates from the city and the fans. Roma is more than a football club; it represents a culture, a way of life, and the eternal soul of Rome itself. The connection was immediate. The club's underdog spirit, its loyalty, and the incredible emotion tied to every match made it impossible not to feel part of something greater.
Who is the ultimate Roma legend in your eyes, and how have they inspired you?
Francesco Totti is the ultimate Roma legend in my eyes. He embodied everything the club stands for—loyalty, talent, and a deep love for the shirt. Watching Totti play was like poetry in motion; his vision, skill, and unwavering dedication to Roma have been a constant source of inspiration in both football and life.
For ‘Romanismo’, I can’t go past Daniele De Rossi. When he took the field, it was as if he dragged those in the stands onto the pitch with him. We are all Daniele De Rossi!
How does Roma influence your day-to-day life, especially working in football?
Roma serves as a daily reminder of what passion and loyalty look like. Whether it's striving to embody the same dedication in my work or using the lessons learned from the ups and downs of Roma’s history, the club shapes my mindset. Roma teaches resilience, an invaluable trait in football and in life.

What’s the most memorable Roma game you've attended, and what made it unforgettable?
The most memorable Roma game I’ve attended was Roma vs Monza in 2023 when I had the incredible opportunity to share the experience with my wife and two young children. Watching Roma play live, surrounded by the passion of the fans, was already special, but sharing that moment with my family made it unforgettable. Seeing my children’s faces light up as they soaked in the atmosphere, singing alongside thousands of devoted fans, and feeling the energy of the Stadio Olimpico together was a dream come true. It wasn’t just about the game—it was about creating a memory that we’ll cherish forever as a family.
Do you have any personal rituals or traditions for watching AS Roma games, either at home or at the stadium?
No, not really. Trying to sleep the night before a game I need to wake up for at 5am is difficult though.
How does being a fan of Roma translate in the family?
Being a Roma fan is a family affair. We share the highs and lows together, whether it's gathering to watch matches or debating lineups and tactics. Roma has become a shared language of love and connection that binds us even tighter.
What does La Roma non si discute, si ama mean to you?
It means that Roma is above criticism—it’s something you love unconditionally. Roma is part of your identity, a lifelong commitment that doesn’t waver, no matter the circumstances.

If you could have a re-edition of a Roma jersey, which one would it be?
The 1993 Adidas jersey is iconic. It was the first season of our greatest son and having it reissued would be like holding a piece of history.
Do you connect with the Roma fan community? If so, how do you interact with them?
Absolutely. Whether it’s through social media, catching up with Roma Club Melbourne, the Roma fan community is like a global family. Sharing the love of Roma with others creates an incredible bond.
How does wearing Roma gear make you feel, whether it's at work or in the stands watching the team?
Wearing Roma gear is a source of pride and belonging. It’s a symbol of my loyalty and a reminder of the passion that unites Roma fans. It’s like wearing a piece of my heart.
What makes Roma fans unique, and what do you think outsiders don’t understand about the club?
Roma fans are fiercely loyal and emotionally invested. Outsiders might not understand that Roma is more than results; it’s about identity, history, and a deep-rooted love that doesn’t falter, even in tough times.
You’ve got an amazing Roma kit collection – what is your favourite?
The 1992/93 Adidas away kit is my favourite. I own an original long sleeve version which I had signed by ‘il principe’, our captain Giuseppe Giannini. The simplicity of the design with the Lupetto crest is timeless.
If you had to sum up Roma’s impact on your life, how would you describe it?
Roma is my compass. It teaches me passion, resilience, and love. It’s not just a club; it’s a part of my soul.
