Adidas presents OCEAUNZ, the Official Match Ball of the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.
Adidas is celebrating a historic milestone in football history by partnering with Australia and New Zealand to develop a spectacular FIFA Women's World Cup football for the ninth year in a row.
Adidas' OCEAUNZ strives to bring diverse communities together through their mutual love of the beautiful game. With the tournament encouraging greater female football involvement, including players, coaches, and officials, hosting the FIFA Women's World Cup on home soil will undoubtedly inspire many young girls to one day be like their favourite Matilda or Football Fern.
OCEAUNZ was developed to fit the demands and tempo of today's game. The ball is white with black and blue applications and distinctive green accents. The blues and greens were inspired by the beauty of Australia, and the magnificent display of lakes, mountains, and waterways in New Zealand has also been admired. Nature inspired the Australian patterns, which were produced by famous local artist Chern'ee Sutton, while Kiwi artist Fiona Collis designed the New Zealand markings.
“With record viewing figures for the Women’s Euros tournament last year, the upcoming World Cup is set to be a massive moment for the game that we love. We’re turning up with a match ball that we’re incredibly proud of - featuring our innovative technology and with a design that represents the natural beauty of the landscape in which it will be played. The game is always evolving, and the design of the OCEAUNZ is built to help players cope with the pace and demands of the modern game. We’re hugely excited for the FIFA Women’s World Cup and to see the women’s game lifted to even further heights, in two fantastic host nations.” - Franziska Loeffelmann, Design Director Football Graphics at adidas.
With the FIFA Women's World Cup just around the corner and 32 nations competing, it's great to see adidas honouring its host countries' heritage.
OCEAUNZ, like the Official Match Ball for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, employs connected ball technology. This is a game-changing tool that provides officials with precise data to help them make more accurate decisions on the field. The basis of adidas' OCEAUNZ is also unique. By enabling precise play with enhanced shape and air retention, the ball is meant to promote accuracy and consistency. Along with improved technology, the ball's polyurethane coating incorporates micro and macro texturing to boost aerodynamics.
Like the Official Match Ball of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, adidas continues to give 1% of worldwide OCEAUNZ net sales to the Common Goal campaign, which helps improve awareness and numbers in female involvement, representation, and leadership.
It's tough to dispute that adidas has produced an elevated Official Match Ball for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023, OCEAUNZ. Athletes participating on home soil will feel represented, unified, and proud to represent their nation with designs that express the majesty of the Australian and New Zealand environments. As adidas introduces OCEAUNZ, a game-changing ball, we watch the women's game reach new heights in two stunning host countries.
