A Look Back at the Best Football Boots of 2018

We are winding back the clock and looking back to the biggest and best releases at Ultra Football for 2018. A year that was jam packed full of football with the World Cup taking centre stage in June and July, as well as a massive year of hyped releases and collaborations. Releases from the likes of adidas, Nike and Mizuno took centre stage at UltraHQ this year.

20. Adidas Team Mode - SHOP NOW
The Team Mode pack from adidas was launched at the completion of the FIFA World Cup and start of the Football season. The pack consisted of the X18+ in a new volt colour way, Predator, Copa and Nemeziz were also given new colour combinations in this collection.
19. Predator x Telstar
This release was following the launch of the Telstar Mechta match ball for the 2018 World Cup knockout stages, adidas have dropped a 'Limited Collection' design on the Predator 18+ football boots. Russia flair on a laceless base.
Mirroring the aesthetic from the adidas Telstar Mechta Ball, the Predator 18+ Telstar edition features a black and red print on a white base with gold stripes representing the prize on offer at the end of the tournament. The Telstar edition were only in restricted numbers at Ultra Football.
18. Nike CR7 Chapter 6 - SHOP NOW
The Mercurial Superfly for Nike's leading man was the first to take on the form of the new-generation Mercurial Superfly 360, including features that tell the story of CR7's illustrious career. "Born Leader" was the title given to this new chapter, and it'll be at the front of Ronaldo's mind as he prepares to lead his country into the 2018 World Cup. This was a high profile release for the year as it as his first signature release for 2018.
17. Nike CR7 Chapter 7 - SHOP NOW
Not long after the very successful CR7 Chapter 6 release in April, Nike released the final iteration of the chapters for their star athlete Cristiano Ronaldo. The Nike Mercurial CR7 Chapter 7 is the culmination of the storytelling and pays homage to the player's number 7 in the forefoot graphic, and also nods to the memorable carbon fiber boots of the past.
16. Nike Just Do It Pack - SHOP NOW
This collection was built to celebrate the 2018 World Cup and was the main collection for Nike's athletes playing in the tournament. Each of the silos featured a pure white upper, mixed with a vibrant swoosh and metallic chrome soleplate. A great competitor to adidas' Energy Mode pack, this clean but vibrant pack made a big statement during the tournament.
15. Always Forward Wave 1 Mercurial - SHOP NOW
The Mercurial dominated this 'Always Forward', returning once more to the fan favourite “Volt” colourway that’s previously featured on the Mercurial Vapor X and Superfly IV "Volt/Hyper Pink”, original launched in February 2015 as part of the Nike “Highlight Pack”, as well as the “Volt/Retro/Imperial Purple” Mercurial Superfly III and Vapor VII from 2011. This has seen to be a huge fan favourite and regardless of the bolt colour, flew of the shelves by fan of the game.
14. Adidas Predator Paul Pogba Season 3
Adidas unveiled the much anticipated Season Three Paul Pogba signature collection, in which previous instalments of the Adidas x Pogba collections have merged the worlds of fashion and football in regards to product functionality and design. This SS18 capsule is defiantly no different with a striking palette of burgundy, silver and black, the capsule continues elevates staple streetwear styles to new levels of luxury with premium textiles and forward-thinking details perfectly harnessing Pogba's inimitable style on and off the pitch. The PP Predator 18+ is one of the archives, with the chrome soleplate and heel counter, and grey knit upper it is unlike anything we have seen before.
13. Nike Limited Black Pack - SHOP NOW
After months of vibrant colour silos and statement boots, Nike dressed the Mercurial series is a sleek, timeless tuxedo that is bold in its own manner. On the contrary to what Nike have delivered recently, with the Always Forward pack seeing vibrant volts and bold blues. The triple black pack is a statement for all players in its own way. Triple Black collections are always a big seller for players and this is no exception.
12. Adidas Predator Paul Pogba Season 4 - SHOP NOW
adidas Football has once again teamed up with Manchester United star Paul Pogba to launch the new Pogba Collection Season IV. Designed to reflect Pogba’s unique personality and creativity both on and off the pitch, the latest collaboration features a re-designed adidas Predator 18+. the stadium boot and street shoe come in a new core black/olive colour way. The stadium bootstands out in any setting thanks to a gold base-plate and two-tone gold and red adidas stripes. A truely unique collection that few adidas athletes get to experience. Always an impressive design and story behind each of these releases.
11. Mizuno Wave Cup - SHOP NOW
We were so crazy about this new Mizuno Wave Cup Legend, and so are big fans of brands bringing back old iconic boots. There's also some boot collectors out there, who were just as hyped as we were! Adding the element of incredible quality with the boots being Handmade in Japan adds the cherry to the top of this amazing release.
10. Mizuno Made in Japan Black Out - SHOP NOW
Just that's these are plush AF with the softest leather and a colour way that is timelessly solid. Both boots have been given the full blackout treatment as well as the elite level "Made in Japan" touch, meaning that both options have been made with the most elite leather in the game – 'Scotchguard K-Leather' – the highest grade leather afforded to football boots, and it' treated with a liquid silicone to make it waterproof, stain resistant and durable. 9. Adidas X18+ - SHOP NOW
In similar fashion, the Adidas X18+ comes from an all new design but with visible F50 adizero DNA and sports that iconic vibrant blue/yellow combination. The striking new Skeletal Weave is compiled of an ultra-thin woven grid, paired with a new low-cut claw collar construction makes for a stellar lock down feel. An all new tech direction for adidas and has proven to be an incredibly popular.
8. Nike Phantom VSN - SHOP NOW
Shortly before the World Cup commenced, Nike dropped an all new silo, the Phantom VSN, a series to replace the Magista line of boots. A revolutionary design for the Swoosh and jam packed with technology saw this to be a hugely popular release for all fans of the game.
7. Adidas Copa 19+ - SHOP NOW
Easily one of the most hyped rumours of 2018, adidas revealed a new chapter in the book of their most iconic football boot silhouette of all time by introducing the laceless Copa 19+. These ain't your dads boots anymore, they ain't your coaches either. These are for the next generation of players. Moving away from the tradition silhouette of the Copa series was a bold move by adidas but has proven to be well worth it.
6. Mercurial Superfly and Vapor - SHOP NOW
The brand new Nike Mercurial Superfly 6 and Vapor 12 were launched in March this year. With a host of new tech, this Mercurial line is more advanced than any that has come before it. Nike has started at the drawing board with the phrase, “fit is the foundation of fast.” Going for the best fitting Mercurial yet, Nike has utilized their Flyknit technology all over the boot for a 360-degree construction, hence the name Mercurial Superfly 360 and Mercurial Vapor 360. For the entirety of the year, the Mercurial series have proven to be massive sellers at Ultra Football, and a top boot for the pro's and it is very easy to understand why it is the case.
5. Nike Balon D'Or: Touch of Gold
To celebrate the achievements of Luka Modrić in his very impressive year of football. Bringing his country to the World Cup final, as well as many other outstanding achievements. Nike produced a very limited, 1,500 pairs of each Mercurial available world wide, with Ultra Football the only stockist in Australia.
4. Gosha x Adidas Predator
A clean design and heavily inspired by World Cup host country Russia, the Adidas Predator 18+ Gosha football boots are predominantly white with silver-metallic 3 Stripes and a sole plate that is blue and red to complete the colors of the Russian flag. Gosha Rubchinskiy's name is printed on the upper next to the stripes in a subtle silver-metallic application. This is the last collaboration between adidas Football and Gosha Rubchinskiy and was only available at Ultra Football in Australia.
3. Nike Phantom VSN x EA Sports
The EA x Phantom VSN was build to commemorate the release of EA Sports FIFA 19 and with the fan base behind that franchise as well as the game of football it is clear to see why this was in the top releases, and one of the most anticipated of the year. Only 3000 pairs were available world-wide and Ultra Football was the only place in Australia to secure a pair.
2. Nike Tiempo 10r Gold: Legends Never Die
The legacy of Ronaldinho keeps on giving as Nike dropped their latest instalment to the Tiempo 10R line. Limited to just 1,000 pairs globally, the Tiempo Legend VII 10R Elite comes with a k-leather finish coupled with gold branding and detailing. The popularity of the previous 10R releases knew that this particular one will fly off the shelves.
1. Nike Phantom VSN (White/Gold)
Nike drop their first limited edition take on the PhantomVSN by releasing just 1000 pairs of individually numbered "Gold" designs. A premium perception of the youngest Swoosh silo. There was only one destination in Australia that got pairs of these boots and it was Ultra Football. Not only was this our pick for the hottest release for the year, but in our eyes, the best colour way to come to a performance elite silo this year. The boot was sold out in only a few minutes and its clear to see why. We are for sure excited to see what the swoosh has in store for next year, and if they are able to top this one.
