AS Roma and adidas have released their brand new 24/25 home jersey and it’s a thing of beauty. This one comes in a deep red with yellow pin stripes and pays homage to the Testaccio era of the club.
Whilst not having a stadium to call their own has been a source of frustration for AS Roma fans for a long time, it has not always been the case. In fact, the last place that they could call their own was just across the city, the ‘Campo Testaccio’, which hosted Roma games during the 1930’s.
Situated in the now modern and edgy area of Testaccio, this 20k capacity stadium was once the home of AS Roma and was a fortress for the side, winning 103 times in just over 150 games at the ground.
Testaccio was a working-class area in these days and was the spiritual home of Roma in the 30’s. Whilst the area of Testaccio has now become a bustling inner-city district, unfortunately, the site of the Campo Testaccio is entirely overgrown and has been overtaken by nature now.
In the past decade, there have been plans to turn the site in to a modern development and carpark, however, the Romans protested against these plans and managed to overturn the decision. There are plans for the grounds to be refurbished and playable once again for the community of Testaccio, but no work has started as of yet.
This new home jersey pays tribute to this wonderful era for the club, with the deep red being the same colour as the season tickets from this era, whilst the ‘AS ROMA’ typography on the back collar also matches these tickets.
The jersey honours the clubs DNA and the connection between the Testaccio district in an elegant tribute to days gone by. The brand-new home jersey is now available online and in-store.
