Italian sportswear brand Kappa's new Deportivo La Coruña 22/23 home jersey has just arrived. A jersey the club will wear in the Primera Federación this season, the third tier of Spanish football.
Older fans might remember "Super Depor" and just how good the team from Galicia were in the past. If not - let's give you a quick reminder.
Deportivo has fielded some exceptional players in the past. Think Juan Carlos Valerón, Roy Makaay, Rivaldo, Djalminha and many more stars of yesteryear. All playing their part in making this one of the most iconic teams in Spain, wearing the famous blue and white stripes.
The team had a stellar run in the 90s and early 00s, finishing runners up twice in La Liga before winning it in the 99/00 season.
Depor picked up the Copa Del Rey in 94/95 and 01/02 along with the Supercopa de España in 1995, 2000 and 2001.They also had a couple of immensely impressive runs in the Champions League, reaching two quarter-finals and a semi-final birth back in 03/04. The highlight being the 4-0 demolition of AC Milan at the Estadio Riazor.
When you consider the might and power of Real Madrid and Barcelona, sustained success like that was an amazing feat. But it's also something that would catch up with them in the end. Why? Finances, mainly.
Depor got every inch out of their team but were paying above their means to do so. Eventually they knew they would need to stop paying players the wages they were. They kept on squeezing and kicking the can down the road until the good times ended. And boy, did they end.
At the end of the 10/11 season, Depor found themselves relegated to the second division for the first time since 1990. This is when the turbulence really started. They managed to finish top in the second division that season, before going straight back down again. Once again they made it back up to the first division where they stayed for 4 more seasons, but they barely hung on each season. It was a slow and painful demise for one of football's true cult clubs.
Relegation once again reared its ugly head again at the end of 17/18 and this time there was no way back. Since then, Depor haven't been back in La Liga. In fact, they now reside in the third division after further relegation at the end of the 19/20 season.
It sounds terrible, and it is for fans, but there are signs of life. In the most recent season Depor just missed out on qualification back to the second division in the two-legged playoff. This season they will be hoping to do one better and make it back to La Liga 2 in their stunning new home jersey. Buoyed on by a massive fanbase which still stands by their team on match day in massive numbers.
The new design is unsurprisingly blue and white stripes - how can it be anything else? The design combines navy blue and royal blue details with a ripple effect referencing the ocean that surrounds A Coruña.
The Kappa logo and club crest are placed high on the chest. A navy section on the back of the neck reads Galicia Azul, with the same colour used on the cuffs.
The breathable polyester fabric effectively wicks away sweat and keeps the athlete dry for as long as possible, providing the ideal feeling of comfort for optimum performance on the pitch.
The jersey is also made with Kappa's KOMBAT technology, allowing for unrivalled freedom of movement and comfort.
