The Ajax 21/22 home jersey has been officially released by adidas.
The iconic red and white kit is back for its latest edition, opting for a more traditional red opposed to the pinkish variation used on last season's kit.
One major exciting update to the new jersey is the fact that it utilises the previous Ajax club crest which was used up until 1991. This is a move sure to excite retro fans, with many of the Ajax faithful against the modernised logo when it changed over 30 years ago.
The club will be looking to continue its dominance in the Eredivisie looking for titles in back to back seasons for the first time since 13/14 with the title not being awarded in 19/20 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The club will again be looking to former Southampton man Dusan Tadic who has been exceptional since joining in 2018, winning the Dutch footballer of the year award last season.
The kit will take inspiration from the success of the 70s, led by manager Rinus Michaels and featuring the likes of Johan Cruyff and Piet Keizer which saw the club win 6 league titles and a stunning 3 European Cups in a row, a feat matched only by Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Ajax was founded 120 years ago in 1900 using a red and white crest featuring an Ajax player. 28 years later the classic crest was introduced featuring the head of Greek hero Ajax representing strength and bravery.
The Ajax 21/22 home jersey will have a thinner centre stripe as well as a thick crew-neck collar. As with all new jerseys coming through this season, it is made from 100% recyclable materials.
