ULTRA MAG | ISSUE 15 - ANTHONY CACERES

We love Anthony Caceres. Not only is he one of the best players in the league, he's also one of the biggest boot collectors we know. Each weekend we look forward to seeing what the Sydney FC star has on feet and we wish more players went down that path.
From the A-Leagues All Stars experience, Club Nacional de Football, family and music - we covered a lot in our catch up. We're looking forward to seeing what he's rocking on pitch next season as well.

We love that you are one of the biggest boot connoisseurs in the A-Leagues set up. What are your three favourite boots of all time?
I feel like a kid again every time I pull out a new pair of boots. I am somewhat superstitious when it comes to boot choice even though I enjoy mixing it up. My favourite has to be the adizero IV. Followed by the tiempo IV Elite and Predator Mania out of pure nostalgia. Honourable mention to the Vapor 13, loved wearing those.
Are there any rumoured releases coming up you have your eyes on?
I’ve heard there could be an adizero battle pack remake. I’m currently wearing the OG pair so if they drop a remake I’ll definitely get my hands on a pair. I always look forward to the latest vapor release and the recent drop looks extremely promising.

What did it mean to you and your wife, Helen, when you became the first husband and wife duo to play at the same club?
We always had played at different clubs throughout our respective careers, so to be able to play at the same club once we were married was very special. It is something we will look back on fondly and be able to share this story with our kids in the future
Do you think Sofia will follow in mum and dad's footsteps?
Given football is a massive part of our family I don’t doubt that our kids will share the same passion for the game as we do. I would love to see Sofia enjoy the game in any way whether it be playing or watching.

Can you please tell us about what Club Nacional de Football means to you and your family?
It’s hard to put into words. The love for the club has been passed down through generations. Uruguayans and South Americans have a very special way of living football. Nacional has always given me a sense of identity, culturally it keeps me in touch with my roots and it is a tradition that I will look to keep alive with my kids.
The Maradona kit you were repping in this shoot was absolute flames. Is this one of your favourites in your collection? Any other standouts we should know about?
I’ve collected a few jerseys over the years. The standouts have to be Xavi’s shirt that I managed to grab when I played against him in the Asian Champions League, Cavani’s PSG kit and Ronald Araujo’s from our recent All Stars game against Barcelona. Otherwise all my Nacional kits are special.

Speaking of big name international stars can you please tell us about your recent A-Leagues All Stars experience.
Barcelona are a club that I have always admired from a young age. Firstly for the great players they have had throughout their history and secondly for the collective style of play which they live by. To be able to play against them in front of 70 thousand people was unreal.
It was a unique experience in my career playing alongside players from across the league. The greatest satisfaction was putting in a performance australian football should be proud of.
Knowing it brought so many fans through the doors - is this something you hope continues going forward? Do you think it helps the game here?
Definitely. I think the game against Barcelona showed many critics of our league that we do have some real quality. We exceeded everyones expecations with our performance against one of the biggest clubs in the world. I hope it will open peoples eyes to the potential football has in this country.

After a tough season at Sydney FC - did it feel good being recognised and selected for the team?
Yes its always nice to be recognised individually despite a dificult season for our club. Since being at Sydney i feel i have found my best form and thats thanks to the club and my treammates. Having lived my whole life in Sydney its a privilege to play for this club. We have set our standards extremely high and it is that expectation that has helped me grow as an individual since being here.
What are some of your favourite brands to wear away from football?
Carhartt features heavily in my wardrobe. Otherwise I stock up on Uniqlo and COS basics. Nothing too out there. Comfort is most important so theres plenty of Nike gear in rotation.

A lot of players say music plays a big roll in their pre-game. Is music something that gets you up for a big game as well? Who are your go to artists and do you ever control the tunes in the dressing room?
Music is my escape and after football its what I am most passionate about. I don't use music as a tool for motivation but more so to clear my mind so I can relax, go out on the field and play care free. I never shy away from controlling what's played in the change room but I tend to keep song choice relatively safe to please the masses.
I appreciate just about every genre of music. The bulk of my library is Hip-Hop, Soul and Latin tunes.
As far as artists go, I'm a big fan of J. Cole, MF Doom, Kanye, Masego, SiR just to name a few and I look out for anything produced by Madlib and 9th Wonder. I could talk music all day so i'll end it here.

What are you looking forward to most this off-season?
This off-season has mostly been about spending time with my family. After a season where scheduling was unpredictable and extremely demanding I have been able to get away to Hawaii with my wife and daughter which was the perfect way to unwind. Otherwise I look forward to our weekly Sunday asado at my parent's house accompanied by a glass of Malbec.
