The Melbourne Victory Afghan Women's Team Get Their Season Underway
Tue, Apr 26.22

The Melbourne Victory Afghan Women’s Team played their first game since arriving in Australia on the weekend, drawing 0-0 in their Football Victoria State League 4 West debut. Last week we had the privilege of hosting their jersey presentation in store at Ultra Sud in Melbourne. A special moment for all in attendance.
The bravery shown by these girls has been incredible. Being able to drop everything and get on a plane to a distant land shows courage that no one should need to rely on. Some kids in the team are as young as 16 and all of them have arrived here without any family to lean on. Football is the glue that keeps them together, with a focus on winning the championship a big goal this year.
Keep an eye onour socials as we sat down with two of the squads star players, including their captain, Nilab, to hear their story. We spoke about the challenges women now face back in their home country and how they hope to become role models for girls back home one day.
We also spoke about what they like to do away from football. What kind of music they like and how they've settled into their new city. What was clear is just how much they love football.
We wish the girls all the best for the season ahead and encourage all to get down and support them. Their first home game is 3pm this Sunday at Ron Barassi Snr Reserve.
Keen to purchase the jerseys? They will be on sale soon with a donation going back to the team with each purchase. Stay tuned.
