From harmful trash to sustainable treasure. The Puma 'First Mile' Pack has landed which is the perfect drop for those who want to make a difference. The Big Cat are stepping up their efforts to fight against plastic waste and focus on sustainability.
For those who don't know, First Mile is a UK environmental business based in London. It works with businesses to reduce their climate impact through a range of services. These include waste, recycling and renewable energy. The use of recycled yarn also makes a social impact by strengthening microeconomies in Honduras, Haiti and Taiwan.
The result from this link up is a Ultra 1.3 and Future Z 1.2 made from recycled bottles from the ocean and landfill. How good is that?
This isn't the first time Puma and First Mile have linked up. That came back in 2019. This is however the first time Puma have used First Mile's receycled yarns in football boots. These yarns have been developed from post-consure plastic collected in Taiwan. The plastic is sorted, cleaned, shredded, spun into yarn and then woven into a stretched engineered knite to create football boots.
“With this pack, we introduce First Mile recycled yarn into our football boots for the first time. The project is very important to PUMA as we continue to utilize more recycled and sustainable materials in football products. We have already launched First Mile collections with our Licensed clubs AC Milan and Manchester City, so we are very happy to launch footwear through the initiative. This is the first step as we move toward more sustainable footwear products without impacting the high-level performance benefits of our signature silos.” – Dominique Gathier, Senior Head of Product Line Management Teamsport Footwear.
First up let's look the Ultra 1.3. These contain 21% recycled material in the upper made from post-consumer plastics. The used of recycled material doesn't affect the performance benefits. The boots still feature the lightweight MATRYXEVO technology which this time uses recycled Chamatex and First Mile yarns. These are designed for ultimate lightweight speed.
The upper is connected to an internal SPEEDCAGE for lightweight support, keeping your foot locked in so you can be at your most explosive.
42% of the Future Z 1.2 upper is made from recycled materials made from post-consumer plastic. The Future's innovative FUZIONFIT+ compression has been engineered for the ultimate fit, perfectly wrapping around the foot for maximum comfort and responsiveness so you can make explosive cuts and directional changes at your top speed.
All linings, foams and vamps use recycled materials, making this the most sustainable FUTURE ever.
