Nike have thrown it back to the early 2000's with the PSG 23/24 home jersey changing it up after their 11th Ligue 1 title.
Back before the current surge of investment and well before the titles started to flow, this kind of design was worn by some serious ballers. Ronaldinho, Jay-Jay Okocha, Nicolas Anelka and more vibey stars played at the club circa 2001 - 2005. A time when PSG finished 4th, 11th, 2nd and 9th in Ligue 1. A turbulent run without success which seems strange in present day.
The new PSG 23/24 home jersey shifts the iconic Hechter stripe from the typical centre of the jersey to sit with the club logo on the left hand side. Directly linking back to the early 2000's timeframe. It might not seem like a big shift, but it is.
All the way back in 1973 French fashion designer, Daniel Hechter, became the PSG president and designed the club's traditional home look. The design included the thick red vertical stripe down the centre of the jersey. Commonly known now as the 'Hechter stripe.' Whenever the design moves away from this - it's a big deal. Are we a fan? Yes.
The red and white stripes blend into the dynamic blue. The pop of colour seen through the jerseys is, quite frankly, gorgeous in our opinion. There's something about bright red coming through with blue and white. This particular design uses the colours to link to the lights of the city blending into the Parisian skyline. It's not a PSG kit without the tricolor flag which is seen on the jersey as well.
The change to the current jersey allows a new group of ballers to stand out in the different design, just like the previous players did. This design definitely won't be here for long, and that's the point. Who are we going to be watching this season that we always look back on in the years ahead?
Tech wise the jersey incorporates Nike's best innovation. The Nike Dri-FIT ADV tech makes this jersey feel next level. You can't compare the fan and player versions anymore, with so much tech and amazing feel in the player specific versions now.
To bring this shoot to life there was no better place to hit up than France Soir restaurant in South Yarra. It's like transporting straight over to Paris.
