Jesper Olsen Talks The New Denmark Home And Away Kits
Thu, Mar 31.22

The World Cup ball has just launched and we're feeling excited, even if we're not totally chill with the tournament in Qatar. With the adidas Al Rihla OMB's arrival many of us will now turn our attention to what's next. Jerseys.
To bring a bit of international flavour down to Ultra Sud we decided to catch up with a legend of Danish Football. A man that resides down here in Melbourne after a brilliant career in Europe, Jesper Olsen.
Olsen had a successful career with his most notable club highlights coming at Ajax and Manchester United. At Ajax he won two Eredivise titles and the KNVB Cup while playing with one of the greatest players the world has ever seen, Johan Cruyff.
Olsen was also there at the very beginning of Marco Van Basten's career at Ajax. Talk about star power!
During our catch up we also talked about the genius of Sir Alex Ferguson. Even during those early years at Old Trafford, Olsen could tell he was on the path to greatness. The way he handled the players was extraordinary, even if he wasn't totally hands on at training. He didn't need to be. He knew his strength was with the players and getting every inch out of them. Something Olsen feels pride at being involved in. There's not many people in Australia who have an FA Cup winners medal in their collection either.
The main reason we invited him down though was to talk the current Denmark home and away jerseys, with the home inspired by the 1984/86 kit design. A kit that he wore alongside many other brilliant players like Michael Laudrup.
Olsen brought along some retro gold from the time period for us to have a look at as well. Jerseys and jackets which look amazing in present day and would fetch a high price on any resale site. How good does that Carlsberg logo look on the back of the presentation jacket?! If only they just went down the full remake path we can hear you say.
Seeing the gear from back then gave us a good insight on the design inspiration from Hummel and more of an appreciation for how the current kits look.
The sound wave graphic seen on the jersey is the noise from Parken Stadium. More specifically when the home crowd sang the national anthem before kick off against Ireland back in 2019. The predominantly red body with white sleeves and red chevrons which run down the shoulders give this kit a classic retro feel.
The away jersey uses a clean white base matched with the sound wave running across the body. This classy design is finished off with red and blue trim details on the collar, cuffs, branding and crest.

With Denmark locked in for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar later this year, we're really keen to see what the next designs bring later this year. If these are anything to go by we're sure they're going to hit the mark with people from Olsen's generation and younger fans all wearing them with pride.
