German Cabrera and the Boca Legacy at G10 Futbol HQ

In the heart of Sydney, a piece of La Bombonera comes alive through German Cabrera—a lifelong Boca Juniors fan who wears his love for the club not just on his sleeve (literally!) but in every aspect of his life. As he proudly dons the latest Boca Juniors 24/25 home and away kits for our shoot at his academy, G10 Futbol HQ, Cabrera brings his personal Boca history to the pitch, surrounded by a selection of his favourite jerseys from over the years.
The connection to Boca runs deep in German’s life, beginning with a gift that would set him on a lifelong path. “My love for Boca started when my godfather came to visit me when I was born and gave my mother my first Boca jersey,” he recalls. Since then, German received a new jersey each year, and with the vibrant blue and yellow colours came a growing passion. By the time he understood that his childhood hero, Diego Maradona, had played for Boca, it was as if his love for the club was destined. For a bit of drama, his older brother happens to be a River Plate fan, adding a competitive edge to his Superclásico memories.

German's love for the club really shone threw when he showed us his Boca tattoo—a tribute to his roots and memories. He got it in 2017 during a visit back to Argentina, choosing to include the number 10 on his back as a nod to Boca’s iconic history. “I wanted something that would remind me of when I was a little kid playing fútbol outside,” he says. “All the kids I train think it’s Messi because of the 10, even my own kids think that, but it’s for Boca and the legend that inspired me.”
German’s academy, G10 Futbol HQ, is a place where Boca’s influence is unmistakable, from jerseys that overlook the training pitch to the relentless energy that pulses through the space. Cabrera carries his love for Boca into his work, sharing that passion with the players he trains. “The same passion I have for Boca, I have for player development. All my kids know the love I have for Boca.”
When asked about Boca fandom, German’s face lights up. “We are ‘La 12’—the 12th man,” he says, referencing the supporters’ level of all-in support. “We don’t compare ourselves to other clubs; we know we’re the best fans in the world. Boca Juniors is a different world, and once you’re part of it, it’s a feeling like no other, I can promise you that.” Cabrera explains this in La Bombonera’s language: “La Bombonera no tiembla, late”—“the stadium doesn’t shake; it beats like a heart.”

Among his collection of Boca kits, the 2021 home jersey stands out as a personal favourite. German tells us it brings back memories of Boca’s triumphs, including their legendary victory over Real Madrid in the Intercontinental Cup. “Riquelme rocked that jersey with the 10 on his back, making Real Madrid’s Galácticos look average,” he recalls.
Grateful for the legacy that his godfather introduced him to, German is now passing down the Boca love to his own children, ensuring that the passion continues to beat in Sydney as it does in Buenos Aires. For Cabrera, Boca Juniors isn’t just a team—it’s a legacy and a lifestyle, worn proudly on his heart, his sleeve, and, of course, his academy pitch.
