Gunners fans will not be disappointed with the new Arsenal 22/23 home and away jerseys as adidas take them back to where it all began.
After a disappointing end to the Premier League, the Gunners face an enticing challenge of hoping to secure themselves a spot in the top four next season. Players will be stepping foot onto the pitch with their Emirates home jersey, seeing the return of the collar for the first time since the 17/18 season.
The German brand incorporates the classic lightning bolt design with the iconic Arsenal red and white colours. This spins off nicely with their traditional jersey seen in the 95/96 season. The lightning bolt holds big meaning to the club, as it appears in the crest of the Royal Arsenal Gatehouse, from when the club was originally formed in London.
"We wanted the new Arsenal home shirt to merge superfan culture, with a classic look. It’s important we create products that truly speak to the core Arsenal fan, and with this design we looked back to old crests and badges used throughout the club’s history.
“The lightning bolt is something that is synonymous with Arsenal, appearing in the crest of the Royal Arsenal Gatehouse, and from when the club was originally formed in Woolwich, London for example. We’re reallyexcited to reimagine it for this year’s home shirt, and hope it will be well received by the fans.” - Inigo Turner, design director at adidas.
Inspired by the lettering around the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal’s away jersey has brought a new talking point to the table. The jersey combines a bronze cannon and metallic trims, with a subtle shading of Arsenal letters, to represent the journey of the superfans who travel to the Emirates Stadium week in and week out.
“We looked at including different parts of Emirates Stadium in this away jersey, which would ensure that fans can take a piece of home with them, even when travelling away to support the team.
“We know that every fan has a different relationship with the stadium, whether it’s walking from the Tollington, or strolling down Blackstock Road. These streets, the bronze cannons, the concrete ‘Arsenal’ lettering all make Emirates Stadium a unique place. It is a space used by the community and fans alike on any day of the week, and we wanted to weave in some of those references to help transport north London to Gunners across the world.” - Inigo Turner, design director at adidas.
Each fan has a different relationship with the club – the lightning bolt, the cannons, the Arsenal lettering, the traditional collar, all make the Emirates Stadium a unique place to be.
In recent weeks, Mikel Arteta has been a busy man with the new signings of Jesus, Zinchenko, Vieira and Turner. It is undeniable that there are more players to come, and we are sure fans are excited to see who wears the new jersey best.
