The 2014 World Cup saw the Adidas Battle Pack take on a Brazilian themed design, with black and white colours visually representing the “all in or nothing” 2014 World Cup campaign. The famous Adidas three stripes used gold colours to focus eyes on the ultimate prize of the FIFA World Cup trophy. The boots very quickly became an iconic standout of the tournament, deploying a hybrid and lightweight touch to express the abilities and power of all players wearing them.
Thomas Muller, Germany’s most decorated player, personified the attributes of the Battle Pack like no other. After his five goals at the 2010 World Cup, equipped with the 2014 Adizero’s in Brazil he added another five goals and drove his team to the ultimate prize this time, World Cup Champions, whilst also receiving the Silver Ball and Boot awards. Over the tournament, Muller represented the black and white boots by showcasing enormous work effort, an ability to cover multiple positions, ball-holding skills, and world class passing accuracy. Muller was a standout for Germany, and in the eyes of many, player of the tournament.
For many considered the GOAT, Lionel Messi, inspired by the national colours of Argentina, stood apart as he wore his very own trademark F50 boots on-pitch at the 2014 World Cup. With his signature “M” logo embedded on the heel of the boots, Messi was awarded the Golden Ball award. Despite ultimately losing 1-0 to Germany in the final, Messi played a vital role in Argentina coming so close to the trophy scoring four goals through the tournament. Messi not only scored so many goals, but he also created more chances than anybody at the 2014 World Cup, and his tally of 46 completed dribbles, a stat up there with the great Diego Maradona.
Brazil 2014 was memorable for the many thousands of Columbia fans decked out in yellow supporting an historic World Cup campaign by their country, and so famously led by James Rodriguez. Flaunting his Adidas Adizero F50 Battle Pack boots the man with the looks and incredible shot was the tournament's breakout player scoring six goals and winning the Golden Boot award. The goals, his masterly positioning and ability to drive his team to an historic campaign ensured him a spot in the 2014 World Cup Dream Team. It’s no wonder that Real Madrid soon came knocking on the door, signing him to join their Galaticos
Brazil 2014 also had plenty of bite, in the form of the owner of Uruguay's most famous set of teeth, Luis Suarez. Off the back of a heroic season for Liverpool, scoring 31 goals and winning the EPL Golden Boot, Suarez came to Brazil with his country’s and world's expectations on his shoulders. Lining up against his Liverpool teammate, Steven Gerard, both wearing the Battle Pack boots, Suarez scored 2 goals to defeat England in his first Brazil 2014 match. In his next (and last) game against Italy, Suarez soon wiped any memory of his goal scoring prowess as he proceeded to bite the shoulder of the Italian maestro, Chiellini. This outrageous act from a man with equally outrageous talent resulted in a swift ban for 9 matches
For Those in desperate need of retro speed, Adidas have just released the limited collection, Adidas F50 Adizero IV. Inspired by the leopard-style print from the 2014 World Cup campaign, they are set to employ a unique re-creation of the super lightweight hybrid touch, combining a cutting-edge and speedflow outsole, with a carbon-fire plate and raised forefoot to achieve maximum speed. The boot, its history and ability to transfer and harness power, skill and touch, will surely capture the imagination and ambition of this generation’s Muller, Messi, Rodriguez and Suarez.
