1970-71 Football Timeline

Football was simpler in the 1970s. Nike released their first ever football boot, Pele was the best player in the world & Arsenal were winning league titles. We take a look at a historic two years across football from 1970-71 and look at all the significant events across the beautiful game.   

May 6 1970: Feyenoord clinch the European cup beating Celtic 2-1 in the final 

April 1st 1970: Everton win the English first division title 

May 1970: adidas unveil the Telstar ball for the 1970 World Cup 

May 28 1970: England captain, Bobby Moore, is arrested and released on bail in Colombia on suspicion of stealing a bracelet

May 31 1970: The 1970 FIFA World Cup begins in Mexico

June 21 1970: Brazil becomes the first team to win World Cup 3 times

July 15 1970: Denmark wins 2-0 against Italy in the first World Female Football Championship

August 12 1970: PSG was founded 

August 13 1970: Alan Shearer was born 

January 18 1971: Pep Guardiola is born

April 18 1971: Valencia win the La Liga title for the 4th time 

May 3 1971: The English first Division championship is won by Arsenal 

June 1971: Nike Launch their first-ever football boot

June 2 1971: Ajax beat Panathinaikos 2-0 in the European Cup Final

November 3 1971: Dwight Yorke is born
